Production Diary

2009

  20th December 2007 : Screening Night 2007

We had a wonderful Screening Night with a great selection of films. The food was fantastic - thank you Lucy and family - and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Well done, everyone for making it such a fabulous evening.

So it's all over for the year and time for everyone to have a well deserved rest from filming and for us to wish you all - students, cast, helpers, tutors alike - a joyous Christmas and a fantastic New Year.

We look forward to meeting you all again in 2008.

"If one has to tell a story he has to first believe in it. All I wanted to do is make a statement. A statement that makes an individual aware that it is only he who is responsible for his own actions. There cannot be any other excuses, reasons or influences for his own doing.

If this message is understood by even one member of the audience, this would make PERCYSTENCE, the film, a success story.

Dedication, talent, green screen and a committed crew is what went into making this statement."

Mervyn Soares, India, writer/director/illustrator

14th November 2007 : News from near and afar

We had a surprise visit from Martin Heffels last month. He was on a whirlwind visit to Sydney and caught up with a number of graduates as well as us when he was here including Matt Chuang and Ellena Syzmecki who is now working at TheLab just down the road from us. He flew back to London via Japan and met up with Cody who is apparently 'working hard' and Mayuko who is working for an internet-tv company. I had a call from Luke Graham who has a company Scope Red with Matt C, Joe Capelo and Michael Karacic looking for crew. All appears to be going well for them with a feature coming out early next year. Chris Young is back in Australia after working for a number of years in Wellington, New Zealand for Weta where he worked in special effects on Lord of the Rings, King Kong and I Robot amongst many others. I believe one of the latest movies he worked on, Sea Horse is coming out around Christmas.

  26th October 2007 : Once More

"Directing a dance sequence was an amazing experience. The tango dancers were excellent and had choreographed a beautiful piece. It was great and very satisfying doing something I've always wanted to do. Next up ..... a musical !!

Romila Kulenthran, Director (Malaysia)
