We specialise in film making training. In particular we specialise in industry based, practical training that leads to careers in film production.

It's very important for you to know exactly how we train our students at APA International Film School. Every film school in Australia has to have a ‘Mission Statement' and in a nutshell our mission is to serve the film and television industry and give our students the necessary training to successfully embark on a film making career in this very competitive industry.

Our training programme designer and director, Ian Ingram Young, is one of the most highly experienced trainers for the film and television industry in the world with around 40 years of training experience. As well as enjoying a successful film making career, he has been fine tuning our film making training programmes over the last 23 years.

Careers in film production need skills, knowledge and attitude

We describe ourselves as offering industry based, practical training and this is exactly what we do. The aim of our training programmes is to re-create, as closely as possible, the environment in which you will find yourself once you commence your film making career. We encourage creativity, but at the same time make sure that you are aware of the commercial aspect of the film and television industry.

When nothing but the best film school will do, it's nice to know that at APA International Film School passion doesn't have an impossible price tag. We know that when you graduate and embark on your careers in film production, you will need to take with you the skills, knowledge and attitude that will make an immediate good impression on your prospective employer.

Training at our film and television school is your first step to a career in the film and television industry. Our training programmes are well organised and since you are all looking for careers in film production, you have to be prepared to work very hard. There is theoretical work to back up the practical, but essentially you are in production from the day you join us and, as far as we can, we work very much like a production company. This means there are deadlines to be met. APA International Film School is your Executive Producer and a demanding one, too!

The programmes are reviewed each year to ensure they are up to date and relevant and encompass all the latest developments. We have two Advisory Boards, a Course Advisory Committee whose members are all actively involved in the film and television industry and an Industry Advisory Board.

Facilities

The Academy caters for up to 60 students each year. There is one main lecture room, a second lecture room which is also used as a screening/meeting/auditioning room, two large studios, one of which has a permanent cyc for green screen work, a staging area, a large equipment store, seven edit rooms, a control room, a sound room for track laying, a production area complete with a computer network for production management work, a high definition theatre which is used for both screenings and sound mixes, as well as administration offices, a student centre and eating areas both inside and outside.
